Tallinn to Istanbul by Bike

This blog covers the bicycle tour of Don Jonsson and Dennis McMillan from Tallinn, Estonia to Istanbul, Turkey starting in early August and hopefully ending at the end of September 2019.

Although it is about a trip, it is not a travel log in the sense of we saw this, enjoyed that. It will just be a collection of stories. Hyperbole for effect will be used. I’ll try and stay away from outright lying, but I do believe that the absolute truth should not get in the way of a good story. On that note, a good story doesn’t happen every day so one has to wait for it to come along. The implication being that I or Dennis wont post unless something interesting has happened or something that with a little exaggeration we can make sound interesting. Having said this, Dennis and I struggled to find a route for this trip and our searches on the internet didn’t turn up a lot of routing information that we could use. So we would also like to leave some useful information about the route on a more timely basis. To that end at the bottom of this page I’ve put a link to a file on Google Drive that we will update regularly. It will have the plan and then the actual. Also links to maps.

On WordPress, blogs are sorted with the most current at the top of the list. If you want to read them in chronological order make sure you start at the bottom. Depending on your device you will find the list of blogs over to the right, or at the bottom.

In terms of subscribing it means you will receive an email telling you when a new blog is posted. I have subscribed to friend’s blogs a number of times and as far as I can tell have never received junk mail as a result. The emails telling you there is a new blog will contain advertisements, but if you go to the blog through the link they should disappear. So if interested in keeping up I recommend you subscribe.

The Schedule and Planned Route

We planned a route using a couple of tools but mostly Komoot and Streetview. Based on that plan we have built a spreadsheet that shows the plan when we started and which will be updated with what actually happens.
